Love this oven!!
This oven cost much more than I would normally pay for a toaster oven, but I wanted to replace a Farberware convection oven that was supposed to broil and didn't do very well. After doing a lot of research, I decided to give this oven a try. I am so glad I did.

I love the digital settings and the flexibility to change the presets. The oven is much smaller than the one that I had been using, but is plenty large for anything I would want to cook in it. It allows for preheating. So you don't have to adjust cook time or guess when it is preheated. I also like the feature that the rack comes out some when the door is opened. It is so much easier than having to be careful not to get burned to check the food.

In addition, the door of my old oven opened to the side. This meant the whole counter in front and much to the side had to be cleared in order to pull out the rack. This one opens down and the door is not very large. So you don't need as much clearance to open it.

Tonight I warmed a full meal of meat loaf, vegetables, potatoes, and gravy in a covered corningware dish. and it came out beautifully. Everything was sufficiently warmed through without the burning of anything on the outer edges. Before getting this oven, I would have warmed this in the microwave and everything to the outside would be a bit crisped before the inside was warm.

As I had said, I love this oven, and I am looking forward to using it quite often rather than heating up my large oven for smaller dishes. I love the quality of the Breville products and am looking into getting one of their newer grills. Their products are not by any means the cheapest, but most of the time, you get what you pay for. I think the quality and versatility of their products are well worth the money spent.

Worth the Price
This is my first Amazon review.

I spent hours and hours researching toaster ovens when our 10 year old Krups died. Size, appearance, and rating were my main concerns for a new toaster. Anyone who has done toaster research knows that there are not a lot of great ones out there these days. The ones that look good, or are a reasonable price, or have an upscale brand name, all seem to have problems. The Breville Smart Oven was on my radar because of it's stellar reviews, but I had initially disregarded it because of the higher price and the larger size. However, after speaking to my in-laws, whom I trust with all things cooking, and hearing that they just bought this oven using a Bed Bath & Beyond 20% off coupon, and absolutely raved about it, I caved. I made room on my kitchen counter and successfully persuaded my husband that a $200 toaster was necessary.

I am happy to say that I am in love with this toaster. It is large but not too large. It looks gorgeous and the buttons and handles are of excellent quality and feel great. The beeping is not annoying. Crumb tray is front removing, the wire rack slides out automatically, the display is digital and user friendly, and it has a countdown timer. The instruction manual is easy to understand. Oh yeah, and it toasts, bakes and reheats AMAZINGLY WELL!!

I look forward to spending a lot of time and many years to come with this toaster. My recommendation is to lay out the $$ and buy this! It's an amazing value and an investment in your future! ;)

Excellent Toaster Oven But Watch For Manufacturing Defects
Just purchased this product from a national box retailer to replace an aging DeLonghi toaster oven. I would give it 5-stars, but am deducting 1-star for manufacturing quality control issues. Upon unboxing the unit and trying it for the first time, the convection oven sounded unusually noisy -- as if the fan blades had faulty bearings or were hitting part of the internal assembly. Upon closer inspection, I could tell that the front door was cockeyed by several degrees. It appears that the unit was built this way. The parts were clearly out of alignment. I tried to squeeze both ends of the oven together to force the door to align better. It helped very slightly -- but it was still noticeably off. I decided to return the unit and noticed that the display unit at the store showed the same alignment issue -- yet the photograph on the box showed perfect alignment. Clearly, there was some kind of quality control issue -- possibly for this batch -- that wasn't caught at the factory. Fortunately, there was one unopened box left -- and it was readily exchanged for the defective one. Upon inspecting this unit at the store before loading it in my car, it appeared to be considerably better than the other two -- so I took the new one home.

With that behind me now, as frustrating as it was to receive a product that was improperly assembled, I'm pleased overall with the toaster oven. While larger than a typical toaster oven, the unit is very intuitive -- and the backlit blue LCD display is bright and easy to read. Like most Breville products, the stainless steel exterior and overall styling are contemporary and clean. With enough room for six slices of bread or a 12" pizza, this will come in handy when you don't want to heat up the whole oven to cook a simple dish or reheat leftovers. With 1800 watts of power, this sucks up a full circuit - so be sure you have a 20-A kitchen circuit, which most modern kitchens have these days. But you may not be able to run two appliances on the same circuit (such as a microwave) while this is on. Make sure you put any other large appliance on a separate circuit from the Breville toaster oven.

Other than the manufacturing issues noted above, my only recommended improvement is the feel of the knobs. They look nice -- but they feel like cheap plastic. For a toaster oven this expensive, a couple of heavy-duty metal or heat-resistant silicone-type knobs would add a touch of class to an otherwise functional product. I realize it all comes down to costs -- but the knobs are something you use constantly -- and they cheapen the feel of the product.

A nice touch is the recessed magnetic dimples on the inside of the door panel that pull the slide-out tray towards you upon opening the door. This causes the rack to slide out part way, making it easy to place your items -- and remove them without burning your hand on the top heating elements. Such a simple idea, but very convenient. Nice touch!

If you buy this product and discover that your door is out of alignment -- or if you hear a clanking noise when the convection fan turns on, then you have a defective unit. Now that I've exchanged mine, the fan is very quiet -- just a purr -- as you'd expect.

Overall nice product, but like many appliance manufacturers these days, the QC in some Chinese factories can be inconsistent, as we found with the batch at our local retailer. Assuming you get a good one -- which I expect most are OK -- you'll be pleased with the ease of use, styling, and overall utility of this accessory.

Greatr product
This oven works great! The only knock I have is that the toaster function takes longer than a regular toaster. The exterior of the oven also get quite hot.

Be smart: buy Breville BOV800XL
In brief:

Fantastic oven. No flaws. Best appliance I have ever bought.
